Safe Braking Guide

We recommend a brake service at least twice a year, to keep you safe. However, you should consider visiting a Bosch Car Service more often if your vehicle is used more often.

A Brake Service Is Essential When:

  • You take longer to come to a full stop
  • You feel pulsations through the brake pedal
  • You feel like your vehicle is pulling to one side when you brake
  • You hear a squeaking / squealing / grinding noise when you brake
  • Your brake pedal goes to the floor or feels spongy before the brakes are activated

    Checking Engine Oil Level

Let your engine cool first (you don’t want to burn your hand!). Find the oil dipstick (this is usually marked). Withdraw the stick, then wipe it clean. After you’ve done this, insert the stick again.

Wait five seconds. Now withdraw the stick again. If oil is present between the low and high marked points on the stick, the oil is ok. If not, it’s time for an oil change!

    Checking The Coolant Level

Allow your vehicle engine to cool. Fine the coolant reservoir.

If the level of the coolant is not between the ‘high’ and ‘low’ marks of the reservoir, then it’s time to visit Mornington Automotive Specialists!

    Checking The Battery Terminals

With a dirty battery terminal, the current must work harder to circulate through your vehicle’s electrical system, draining your fuel more rapidly.

To fix this, first remove the terminal caps. Clean the contact post with a brush (wire brush is best). You should be able to see the clean metal contact surface. Clean the caps too!

If in doubt, contact Mornington Automotive Specialists – this is our area of expertise!

    Checking The Tyres

Poor tyre pressure affects many things, including car handling, the comfort of the ride, and the fuel consumption.

Check the tread on your tires, is it worn? If it is almost smooth to touch, it’s time for new tyres!

If in doubt, contact Mornington Automotive Specialists – this is our area of expertise!

    Checking The Windscreen

Apparently trivial cracks in the windscreen can in fact be very dangerous. To avoid further damage, have your windscreen swapped or cracks fixed.

To evade your sign being impeded when it’s raining, your vehicle wipers should be in excellent working order. This is very important for driving safety of course!
